GUILD OF MUSIC SUPERVISORS CANADA HONOUR DAVID HAYMAN AT CANADIAN SYNC AWARDS

Honouring his legacy in the Sync community with “The Huey” for an emerging music supervisor.

The Guild of Music Supervisors Canada (GMSC) has created a new award, called “The Huey”, honouring legendary music supervisor, David Hayman, who passed away in May, 2020.

To be presented at the Canadian Sync Awards at El Mocambo on June 9th in Toronto, “The Huey” will be awarded to an aspiring music supervisor who has passion for the craft.  The recipient must be a Canadian resident who shows initiative and interest in pursuing music supervision as a career, but has not yet gained experience in the field.

“David Hayman was a mentor to many (myself included) at his company, Supergroup. He always allowed opportunities or helped to educate anyone who was interested in the craft of music supervision. With several formed Supergroup employees, interns, volunteers, or mentees holding various roles in many parts of the music industry, David’s openness and impact has created opportunities for many, who, if not given that chance, could be on completely different paths. In my mind, “The Huey” is a way that we, as a community, can honour him and continue the mentoring David provided to so many. I know without David giving me my shot, I would most likely not be doing what I love today” says Cody Partridge, an Officer of the GMSC and former Supergroup employee.

The GMSC encourages all aspiring music supervisors from across the country to submit an application. “The Huey” award grants the recipient opportunities to speak with established Canadian music supervisors to learn the basics of the job and, in addition, opportunities to speak with professionals in various positions within the Sync community (labels, publishers, sync agents) to build connections and potential internship/job opportunities.

This award recipient will also receive a $1,500.00 CDN honourarium.

Potential recipients can be nominated by a mentor, professor, industry professional, or be self-nominated. Applications are available online, and are due by May 18, 2022, Midnight EST.

The application will be juried by the Sync Awards Committee and the successful applicant will be notified by May 25th.
